Misfits star Lauren Socha – who plays Kelly in the E4 superhero drama – has pleaded guilty to the racially aggravated assault of a taxi driver.
Judge Hilary Watson has sentenced the actress to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months, for assaulting 52-year-old taxi driver Sakander Iqbal during a incident in Derby city centre in October last year. The judge told the 21-year-old actress,
“Your conduct on that night was despicable and Mr Iqbal rightly brought it to the attention of the police and then the courts.
“When heavily in drink and pumped up you chose to express yourself in that despicable way.”
While speaking outside the court, Sakander Iqbal commented, “It made me feel absolutely terrible. I'm extra careful now whenever I pick anybody up in my taxi. It's left me really distraught.”
Lauren leaves Misfits
It has also been confirmed that Lauren will not reprise her role as Kelly on Misfits, however her departure has nothing to do with her assault charge,
“Clerkenwell Films and Lauren Socha agreed some time ago that along with other cast members, including Iwan Rheon and Antonia Thomas, she would not be returning for the fourth series of Misfits, which is currently in production. Channel 4 supports both parties decisions,” a spokeperson revealed to Digital Spy.
“A mutual decision was reached between Clerkenwell and Lauren earlier this year that she would not be returning for the fourth series. Misfits has been in production for a number of weeks now and Lauren is not part of the lineup.”
