She might look all sweet and sexy while singing classic songs like I'm Like A Bird but singer Nelly Furtado admits she had quite the naughty side to her when she was little - and amongst her cheeky endeavours was the little matter of her swiping sweets from her local corner shop.
The Big Hoops (Bigger The Better) star admitted she was a cheeky teenager – and while hanging out with her friends, she used to drop by the local shop to nab some snacks… without paying! See, “bad-ass”.
Nel’ revealed to S magazine, “My song Parking Lot really reminds me of being 14 years old and hanging out around the 7 Eleven (general store) with my friends until 4am, stealing sweets. I thought I was a bad-ass back then."

Thankfully, the singer has given up her petty pilfering ways and is now much more excited about getting freebies the honest way (by being a super-famous recording artist). But as Nelly insists, even super-famous recording artists like herself started small…
“I remember attaching a wire clothing hanger to the antenna of my radio in my bedroom, so I could get the frequency and get that station and listen to the top 10 every night,” she recalled. “It was very liberating, finding that confidence through the music."
Well it sounds like Nelly didn’t have the joys of Doctor Fox to listen to while she was growing up, but we’re glad she managed to fashion her own antenna extension to get the radio working. At least while she was doing that, she wasn’t nicking sweets down at the 7 Eleven. (They’d never have allowed that kind of behaviour in Woolworths.)
