We thought there was only One Direction. But it turns out there are two. Not two directions, but two One Directions. There's the British one, put together by Simon Cowell during The X Factor, and there's the American one, put together by someone else.
According to The Metro, the American 1D, has sued Simon Cowell for apparent trademark infringement (stealing a name), but now he is counter-suing them. Alongside Sony Music Entertainment, he's claiming that US 1D have "devised and perpetrated a scheme to exploit the goodwill" of the British 1D.
The US One Directioners insist that they had the name in 2009 - which was a whole year before Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson met! They also insist that they beat the British boys to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, as they allegedly got their paperwork in and filed a trademark application before the What Makes You Beautiful singers.
They also want Simon to hand over $1million in damages! Although that's just a drop in the pond to multi-millionaire Simon, we're sure he's not going to take any threat to his golden boys very well!
Cinema date
In other One Direction news, Liam and Louis went on a cinema date the other day to check out Katy Perry's 3D film Part Of Me. Louis loved it, tweeting: "Watching the @katyperry movie. wow, what an amazing woman. True talent! what a brilliant film, any music fan should watch it! [sic]" And Liam backed him up on that, adding: "Just watched Katy Perrys film amazing film, she works sooooo hard amazing well buzzed for today now congratuwelldone katy xxx[sic]"
