Following the shock news that Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, we thought we'd bring you a gallery of his finest moments on film.

Most of these aren't from his actual films, but to be honest we were never really that keen on Mission: Impossible. Sorry, but it was just one for the lads, really, wasn't it? Anyway, here are some funny/weird/bizarre/weird/funny/cute moments of Tom Cruise. Enjoy!

1. Tom getting squirted by a water pistol

At a film premiere in 2005, a naughty interviewer thought it'd be funny to squirt some water in Tom's face. Although he seems happy at first, as soon as he realises someone's actually squirting water in his face, he gets angry, but handles it quite well, telling the interviewer "You're a jerk".

The stunt was filmed for a Channel 4 TV show which never saw the light of day, and four freelance members of the crew were arrested on suspicion of assault!

2. Tom getting his torso out

In 2004, Katie Holmes admitted that she had had a childhood crush on Tom Cruise. She told Seventeen magazine: "I think every little girl dreams about [her wedding]. I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise." We'd hate to volley wild suggestions about, but we're pretty damn sure that this scene in Top Gun had something to do with Katie's early feelings for late-80s pin-up Tom. We mean... how CUTE is he here?

3. Tom jumping off of Oprah's sofa

In May 2005, about a month into dating Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise went on Oprah Winfrey's talkshow to talk (surprise!) to her about his film War of The Worlds. But he wanted to make love, not war, and instead got really excited about his new girlfriend. The normally private star punched the air loads and banged on about being in love. He JUMPED on Oprah's sofa TWICE. To be fair, he's only as excited about Katie as all of the audience is about him!

4. Tom talking about religion

In 2008, the above video footage emerged of a 2004 sermon Tom Cruise had done after accepted the Freedom Medal of Valour at the International Association of Scientologists event. In the video, he says: "We are the authorities on getting people off drugs. We are the authorities on the mind. "We are the authorities on improving conditions. We can rehabilitate criminals. We can bring peace and unite cultures." - This was the bit we understood...
