Chris Martin teams up with The Simpsons’ Matt Groening for Coldplay comic book

Chris Martin and his Coldplay companions have teamed up with The Simpson’s creator Matt Groening to come up with their very own comic book.

Based on their 2011 album Mylo Xyloto the series of six comics will be published by Matt’s company Bongo Comics, and will focus around the tale of young Mylo, a hapless ‘Silencer’ fighting a ‘war against sound and colour.’

Whatever that means…

“Mylo’s story and universe came together and this ended up providing the backdrop for the album and tour,” Coldplay frontman Chris explained.

The comics have been written by the man behind Kung Fu Panda and SpongeBob SquarePants, Mark Osborne.

“There will hopefully be many, many connections for people who have heard the album,” Mark explained.

It’s been a long time coming

The band, who are currently on their world tour, say plans to create a comic have been three years in the making.

“There were always key words and phrases from Chris [Martin] that drove the story process, things like 'glowing in the dark' and 'dreaming of paradise',” Mark said.

The first edition of the comic will be launched tomorrow at an international comic convention in San Diego, and fans will be able to buy the first edition in February next year.

Coldplay’s album Mylo Xyloto has topped charts in 34 different countries, and sold more than six million copies worldwide.

So what do you think – are you excited about reading the Coldplay comic?
