Last week, Dappy once again whipped up a storm of controversy with his new video for I’m Coming: Tarzan 2.
Not only did all sorts of rude things go on in the clip, but at the start of the video Dappy put the words “Free Leo Chindamo”. Leo was jailed for a minimum of 12 years in 1995 for the stabbing of head teacher Philip Lawrence. Lawrence had stepped in to break up a fight outside St George’s RC School in Maida Vale. Leo was released in 2010, but was recalled to jail on license for meeting a gang member, breaking curfew and failing a breath test.
The family of Philip Lawrence were justifiably furious at Dappy’s mention of Chindamo in his new video, arguing that he was profiting from their pain. While Dappy pleaded ignorant and said he wasn’t aware that Leo was behind the stabbing.
Respect

Anyway, we’re pleased to hear that Dappy has stepped up and done the right thing. Not only will the video be edited to remove the mention, but the N-Dubz star will donate his share of the song’s royalties to anti crime charity Nacro.
“I'm donating all my royalties earned from #Tarzan2 to the charity Nacro in respect to Philip Lawrence... So let's get this climbing! Xx,” Dappy has tweeted.
He then expressed his desire to meet Philip Lawrence’s widow to explain in person that he’s actually a good person really,
“It would be an honour to meet Francis Lawrence to show her that really I am a warm hearted person with 2kids that don't mean any harm x”
It’s a small step towards making amends.
