Danny Boyle's incredible Olympic opening ceremony opened the Games in a spectacular fashion, and though no celebrity was bigger than the event itself (including Her Maj, the Queen), there were some great performances from the world of pop world, and some fantastic cameos.
After lots of mash-ups of music during an act which saw a young couple using social media to help find their way through time to meet up and hook up, Dizzee Rascal appeared on stage. He sang his hit, Bonkers, wearing a red baseball jacket reading "E3", the name of the postcode he grew up in. Which, incidentally, lies in the shadow of the Olympic Park in east London.

Other pop performers included Emeli Sande, who performed a rousing rendition of hymn Abide By Me over some music that could best be described as a heartbeat.
Arctic Monkeys appeared on a stage with full-on rockstar quiffs, and performed I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, their debut hit. They also covered The Beatles' Come Together while lots of cyclists with moth wings circled the racing track of the stadium and one flew to the top of the stadium (seriously).
Alex Trimble, the frontman from Two Door Cinema Club, sang Caliban's Dream, a song written specifically for the ceremony, and Noel Fielding appeared as a childcatcher in a pair of skates. Seriously!
All of the songs are available to download now. The album: Isles Of Wonder: Music For The Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, was released right after the opening last night!
