Fuelling rumours of rivalry, Christina Aguilera has admitted that her friendship with Britney Spears isn’t exactly what it was, by saying: “We were very close.” Eek.
The two divas are set to go head-to-head next month as Christina, 31, comes back to US screens as a coach on The Voice and Britney, 30, makes her debut as a judge on The X Factor USA - and it’s going to be a battle of the divas.
Making her point that Christina got to the reality show circuit first, Christina added: “I welcome [Britney] to this family of fun and entertainment and finding new talent.”
Last month, Simon Cowell, 52, accused The Voice of “nicking” ideas from The X Factor, saying: “[Producers] see something they like and they'll nick it and you end up with both shows looking the same.” Yup, it’s a real family atmosphere alright.
Britney’s rumoured feud with her former Mickey Mouse Club co-star is said to have kicked off when Christina went on tour with Britney’s ex Justin Timberlake in 2003.
Despite playing down rivalry between Britney and American Idol’s latest diva Mariah Carey, 42, Christina’s choice of words at a recent press conference spoke volumes. On Britney’s role on The X Factor USA, she said: “I don't know what she's going to offer specifically, but I know she's a pro and she's going to give, I think, great advice.”
Look out for a ratings bloodbath when The Voice premieres on September 10th with The X Factor USA starting on September 12th.
