We all know Rihanna’s a party girl. She’s a little bit woo, little bit wahey (you know what we mean), and she’s no stranger to burning the candle at both ends, but could she be turning to religion in an effort to restore some tranquillity?

The superstar doesn’t exactly behave like a devoted churchgoer and her exact religion, if any, isn’t known, but she’s always come across a little spiritual – in what form we don’t know – and we can’t help notice the constant references to God in her tweets recently. 

Today she quoted a lyric by Rastafarian musician Tony Rebel from his song If Jah:  ‘If JAH is standing by my side, then why should I be afraid of the pestilence that crawleth by night?!’ (Jah is the shortened name for God and Jehovah used in more than 500 languages around the world.)

Her increased mention of someone on high may have something to do with the singer losing her grandmother a month back.

Not long after the death of Dolly, whom Rihanna was really close to, the star was on Twitter retweeting posts by a Christian minister. The Birthday singer retweeted Joyce Meyer’s message: "If Satan can defeat you in your thoughts then he can defeat you anywhere else as well."

Rihanna's spiritual beliefs probably raise a few eyebrows in the church-going community, what with her penchant for tiny shorts and racking up dubious-looking substances on bald guys’ heads.

But the 24-year-old singer even carries a reference to God around her in the form of tattoos.  Her fifth ink, on her rib cage, is an Arabic phrase which reads “Al-Hurria fi Al-Maseeh,” which translates roughly to “Freedom in God.”

Rihanna's been on a constant holiday for a good few months now, popping off her yacht to play a festival here and there, so maybe she’s looking for a little peace.
