It’s not quite the Britney-shave, but now an expert is claiming Miley Cyrus’ new ‘do is the latest sign the popstrel could be going down the same route as Britney Spears’ 2007 emotional breakdown.

Defined by that umbrella moment, Britney went through a period of real distress and now a psychologist says the latest barnet-based act by Miley is an indicator she could be suffering emotional trauma and is ‘overwhelmed with anxiety, feeling lost and uncertain about her future.’

"Miley Cyrus seems stuck in a set of compulsive behaviours that cry out for attention," psychologist Dr Seth Meyers told RadarOnline.com. "[Her] parade of unusual and provocative behaviour recently reminds me of Britney Spears' downward spiral in the past."

The LA-based doctor hasn’t treated the teenager and obviously he doesn’t consider Miley’s positive statements after the drastic new crop an indicator it might just be a haircut.

After cutting, bleaching and part-shaving her hair into a funky cropped style (by Beverly Hills Chris McMillan, the same hairdresser who did Jennifer Aniston’s 90’s ‘Rachel’ cut!), the Hannah Montana star told her nearly eight million followers on Twitter she’d "never felt more me in my whole life" and "feeling so happy in my skin."

But the psychologist thinks the 19-year-old’s family should be watching her. “Her loved ones should keep a close eye on her in case her impulsive behaviour continues and gets worse, potentially putting her at risk of self-harm," Meyers warned.

Miley Cyrus has a quote from ‘Buddha’ on her Twitter profile: “Happiness does not depend on what you have or who you are, it solely relies on what you think.”
