He also chats to heat about his flirtation with Cheryl Cole, reveals what’s really going on with his rumoured girlfriend Kassidy Cook and his friendships with One Direction and David Beckham.

(And we checked, he owns a mirror and everything.)

So do you think you are sexy?

No, no, I don’t look in the mirror and think ‘there’s one sexy guy’. [Laughs]. I’m just one of those people who gets up in the morning, goes to training, eats, sleeps, goes to school, that’s it.

So you don’t style your hair?

Well, yeah, I do style my hair. I look after myself but it’s part of my routine.

It always looks perfect when you’re about to dive, do you fix it in between?

No, I just take my shammy [the little cloth all divers wash themselves with] and run it through my hair. We're all very protective of our shammys, they are like comfort blankets.

And what about your tan, that can’t be real can it?

[Laughs] Let’s settle this once and for all – it is real! I went to a training camp in Majorca and I tan quite easily. When you’re diving outdoors and you’re in the sun everyday  - I end up this colour. I just have to look at the sun and I go brown.

It was an amazing celebration at the end when you won your bronze medal…

Yeah, the officials loved it. There was a funny joke going around that said the US diver who won gold celebrated as if he had won silver, the Chinese athlete who came second celebrated as if…he’d won nothing, and I celebrated as if I’d won platinum – which is true really. It did feel like I’d won the world. I was just so happy. I had to jump in the pool. Well, not jump, I was thrown really!
