Tulisa debuts new song Skeletons, insists: “music comes first”

She might be a brilliant judge on The X Factor, but Tulisa has stood her ground and said that music is still her priority. She said: “Music is what’s important and what comes first. People do forget that but it is the case.”

Speaking to Trevor Nelson ahead of her Radio 1Xtra Live Lounge performance, she also said that she’s staying true to her Female Boss nickname. When Trevor asked if rumours of her A+Ring (making all the big decisions on) her own album were true, she responded: “In what sense – as in I pick the singles, I pick the videos, I script the videos? Yeah!”

“It’s still like that wirh me now like it was in N-Dubz. It has an N-Dubz element, still. But just kind of me” As well as performing a reggae-tinged version of new single Live It Up, she also debuted Skeletons, which is so new “it hasn’t even been mixed yet!”

She added: “It’s basically about a bit of everything. A bit about the past year. A bit about the media. One of these kind of ‘don’t judge me’ tracks.”

Speaking to the media, she added: “It’s quite dark”, and she's right - it has some deep, murky lyrics, such as: “We all have that closet full of skeletons” and “All I ever wanted was to give you the real me”

Darkest of all, she sings: “Seems I can’t win for losing so why should I frigging try?”

It sounds like there could be a few other downtempo, sadder numbers on the album, which is to be called The Female Boss. She said: “Even though the first song was Young, there’s only two kinds of dance/Ibiza tracks on the album, and the rest is akind of a mix of R&B-ish Hip-Pop…

"There’s even a couple of ballads, 80s style tracks on there.”

Are you looking forward to hearing Tulisa’s album? Sounds like she's using it to exorcise a few demons.
