Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty seemed to take everyone by surprise when they got married in Rome this weekend… but not us here at heatworld.
Oh no, we told you back in July that the pair were engaged to be married after one of heat’s spies spotted Cat showing off a massive diamond at a London hotel.
And on Saturday after just 10 months together the pair sealed the deal, marrying in front of 60 friends and family, who had only been told about the ceremony days beforehand.
The LA-based pair paid for their guest to fly out and see them marry in St Isidore’s College Church, which specialises in wedding for Irish people who want to marry close the the Vatican – Patrick, 41, even flew out his own Belfast-based priest, Fr Gary Dongan. Cat, 35, chose showbiz pal Edith Bowman to be her bridemaid.
Cat and Pat only started dating recently, but have been friends for more than a decade after presenting Fame Academy together.
In July we told how we spotted Cat having what looked like an impromptu engagement party at the Goring Hotel.
An eyewitness told us: “Cat and Patrick were outside on the terrace at the Goring drinking champagne,” she said.
“They were joined by friends and there was lots of congratulations and passing around a ring, which was a rather large diamond from what I could see! They both looked very happy and excited.”
In an interview last year Patrick did suggest 2012 would be the year he finally decided to walk down the aisle, saying: “I think that might be my New Year’s resolution… to get married.”
We love a man with a plan!
