It’s one of the most shocking and disturbing celebrity stories of the year, and now more details about the state of mind of Johnny Lewis are starting to emerge.
To recap, the 28-year-old actor – who dated Katy Perry in 2006/7 – was found dead in his driveway having either jumped off or fallen from a roof, while the body of his landlady was found murdered inside her home.
Now, details about The OC actor’s fragile state of mind have been revealed - according to Foxnews.com, probation officials had serious concerns about his wellbeing, and even suggested that the state of his mental health made him a danger to others.
In the past 10 month the troubled young actor had been arrested on several occasions and had been sent to treatment programmes for drug, alcohol and mental health issues. He had left jail just five days before falling to his death.
Four months ago, a probation officer had written about his concerns for Johnny, stating that he were, “very concerned for the well-being of not only the community but that of the defendant.”
In January this year Johnny attacked two men with a bottle, and in August he acted as his own defence, pleading no contest to felony assault.
In May this year a probation report stated, “The defendant suffers from some form of chemical dependency, mental health issue and a lack of permanent housing. Given this, (Lewis) will continue to be a threat to any community he may reside.”
The actor’s attorney, Jonathan Mandel, said yesterday that several attempts had been made to help Johnny, particularly by his parents,
“Johnny Lewis had a lot of problems, a lot of mental problems. I recommended treatment for him but he declined it.
“I give a lot of credit to his parents,” he continued. “They were really strong in trying to help him out. They really went to bat for him, but I guess they just couldn't do enough.”
This really is very sad.
