Calvin Harris has claimed that he owes his success in the music business to Rihanna. The DJ has revealed that it was only after he recorded his collaboration, We Found Love with the Barbadian that his career really took off.
The single sold more than a million copies and reached the number one spot in the UK and the US.
Riri to the rescue
The 28-year-old explained how he tried to crack the American market but did not have any real recognition until this record was released.
“It changed absolutely everything. Career-wise it was the best thing that could ever have happened.”
“For example, in America my tune Feel So Close came out about three months before. But when We Found Love came out, the radio started playing Feel So Close like it was the single after. Then that did really well, it charted well and sold a lot of copies.”
And the rest they say is history. Three cheers for Rihanna.
The surge of love between the artists is mutual with Rihanna being a big fan on the DJ, even taking him on her 28 date tour last year.
"Calvin is the perfect fit for the tour. He is going to bring something unique and fun for the fans."
His latest single Sweet Nothing, with Florence Welch went straight to number one last week and the Scot admitted that it felt to be back on top again.
“My own number one's are not that frequent, so it’s a pretty special thing even though a lot of people say that you don’t really have to sell that many nowadays — it’s all relative.”
“It’s very pleasing. I still get the same buzz, definitely.”
There is something about you and collaborations Calvin. Do not stop.
