One Direction must spend a good 30% of their lives mid-jump, being photographed, as above. We worry for Harry Styles’ tendons. We’re concerned that Niall Horan might not have proper arch support. We stay up late at night just fretting about Zayn Malik’s hamstrings. Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne strike us as sensible, though, as if they do warm up exercises first.
Anyway: why are One Direction jumping into the air in suits? To grace the hallowed pages of the December issue of Vogue, is why. The cheeky fivesome were photographed by Patrick Demarchelier and thoroughly interviewed as part of the special pop-themed edition of the fashionable tome, and opened up about their fans, fashion and the new album.
“We want to gradually get more and more ‘live’ sounding,” said Harry. “So this album is a lot less little synth sounds, more guitars and drums. It’s important to experiment with things – we want to move with the times, but keep true to ourselves.”
“We did a lot of writing in the studio,” said Niall. “And I play the guitar, so I play on a lot of the tracks on the album.”
And Harry admitted the band are still struck by the fans reaction to them wherever they go. “You’re never going to get used to walking into a room and have people screaming at you,” he said, quite fairly.
But yes, yes, forget all that: what about Liam’s new hair. WHAT ABOUT LIAM’S NEW HAIR? “At the start, management said I wasn’t allowed to change my hair,” said Liam, about his hair. “But then I did it anyway.” And you thought he wasn’t a rebel.
