She might have taken a year out to focus on starting a family, but how has Adele still managed to become one of the most talked about artist of 2012?
Here’s a clue. It’s for her part in a certain Hollywood blockbuster alongside a certain Daniel Craig. No, she hasn’t suddenly taken the next step and swapped her singing talents for an acting role (had this been the case, you would definitely have heard about it). We’re talking about the infamous Bond theme that has the songstress’ name written all over it.
The Skyfall theme tune, called, wait for it, Skyfall, is eligible for the Best Original Song Oscar with 74 – yes, 74 – other contenders including Katy Perry’s hit Wide Awake from Part of Me.
Some feared the single, with elements of the classic 007 theme, would be ineligible for the Oscar because technically it’s not original. But fear not Adele fans. The music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences certainly don’t see this minor technical issue as a problem so who are we to complain?
Now we don’t want to tempt fate, but if the single did receive a nomination and then take home the prize, it would be the first time a Bond theme has achieved the honour. And nothing says history making music like a song penned by our leading lady.
The 24-year-old is going to need a whole new house for all those awards soon.
Watch out in February to see who takes the crown.
