Everyone and their mum has done the ‘I’m pregnant, look at my naked bump’ photoshoot – Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Myleene Klass, Claudia Schiffer, Mariah Carey, and of course, Demi Moore, who kicked off the trend way back when.
And this time, Shakira’s stepped up to the plate to show her naked baby bump (and hot footballer boyfriend Gerard Pique) to the world.
The singer has done it all in the name of charity, as part of her role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Inviting friends AND FANS – that’s YOU, you person who still knows all the words to Whenever, Wherever - to their baby shower, they said: “To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations.”
The online baby shower (seriously) encourages fans to look around Shakira and Gerard’s virtual living room, where they can buy Inspired Gifts, real life-saving items which will be given to children in the poorest parts of the world.
Items cost from $5 (£3.12) for a mosquito net to keep a child safe from malaria, to $110 (£68.56) for a special food that can save the life of an acutely malnourished child.
In the statement, Shakira added: “Every expectant parent around the world shares all the same hopes and dreams for their children that we do,”
“Yet many don’t share the same opportunities. Together we know we can change that.”
The pair added: “Thank you for sharing this unforgettable moment with us.”
