Jessie J is reportedly preparing to pay out almost £1 million to her former manager. The dispute between her and her former manager, Raymond Stevenson, has been going on for two years but is thought now to have finally ended.
Raymond discovered Jessie when she was just 15 and attending the Brit’s school – apparently he was the brains behind her trademark, “swagger”.
The music mogul signed the Price Tag star to a label when she was just 19-years-old, however, the company broke down and it’s alleged that Ray paid out around £70,000 to get Jessie out of the contract.
Following this, he flew her to the US to introduce her to the music scene on the other side of the pond – however, on their return, the relationship between Ray and Jessie broke down, leading her to employ Crown, to represent her.
The dispute was over earnings from the 25-year-old’s album, Who You Are and now it appears that Jessie will be handing over a reported 20% of her earnings from it.
According to a source, Jessie and her team never believed that the on-going dispute would end in a payout of this proportion.
“Jessie is signed to the type of huge label who usually just get what they want.
“Ray is extremely well respected, but he runs a relatively small operation and Jessie’s people thought he would just roll over.”
They then went on to tell the Sun that this was “an absolutely massive payout”.
However, we’re sure this won’t play on Jessie’s mind for two long.
Through Crown, she was signed to Universal and since then has released six, top ten hits – including two number ones.
Oh, and she made the Sunday Times Rich List after earning an estimated £8 million, to date. Just taking the rough with the smooth eh, Jessie?
