This afternoon (or this morning over there) The Supreme Court of the United States (brilliantly called SCOTUS) declared that The Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional.
The total ramifications of the law being declared unconstitutional is yet to be totally played our, but in general it gives legally married same-sex couples in America the same rights as heterosexual couples. It also means Proposition 8 (a law created in California back in 2008 that meant previously married gay couples were no longer married pretty much overnight) has also been overturned.
It’s kind of a big deal. And as you’d expect, lots of celebs have had lots to say about it. Least of all Kristen Bell, who proposed to her boyfriend Dax Shepard on twitter. The couple have always claimed they wouldn’t marry unless everyone, gay or straight, could.
Hilariously, Kristen first of all used the wrong twitter handle for her hubby-to-be, but we’ll give her a break.
Russell Brand tweeted: “If you're gay married in California your gay marriage is now legal. Good.#allmarriageisabitgay” Keeping it simple Russell.
Here’s what some more celebs had to say….
Don't wanna traffic in stereotypes but let's be real: I'm gonna love a gay wedding.
