The tattooist who buzzed the word ‘RIO’ onto Lady Gaga’s neck during last year’s trip to Brazil has unveiled a few more details from his encounter with the star.
Brazilian artist Daniel Tucci told the Mirror that Gaga specifically asked for a ‘prison-style’ inking to adorn her neck – and even shaved her hairline to better show things off.
Gaga had the etching – which reads ‘RIO’, only with a cross for the ‘I’, a nod to the city’s famous Christ the Redeemer statue – while visiting the capital’s King Seven Tattoo parlour last year.
“She told me she wanted it to look like a prison tattoo, not a nice design, a bit shadowy. ‘Like something done in prison,’ was the term she used.
“She didn’t want it to look really sharp but more like an amateur tattoo. It’s on the back of her neck, just below the hairline – she got her hair especially shaped to show the design.”
Daniel also revealed that Gaga made a quick phonecall to boyfriend Taylor Kinney – who she has been dating for two years – before getting the inking done.
“Before getting the tattoo done, she didn’t make a move before she called Taylor,” he said.
“She asked him if he was okay with what she was doing and when she hung up she said, ‘I love my boyfriend so much, he is the right guy for me. He never has a problem with anything I do and I always ask him first… but I can do whatever I want and he will never complain’.” Which is exactly this kind of detailed relationship stuff we say to rando prison tattoo artists in the middle of Brazil.
Anyway, Gaga isn’t the only star to get an off-the-beaten-track tattoo – Rihanna had a traditional Maori inking stamped onto her hand with a mallet and chisel while touring in New Zealand.
