Ocean's Thirteen receives its world premiere tonight in Cannes, when the streets will be blocked with fans going bananas as Brad, Clooney, Matt Damon and co stride up the red carpet. I won’t be there, as I’ve just seen it at it’s real world debut, an 11am press screening.
To everyone associated with the film who said Ocean's Thirteen would deliver everything that the disappointing Ocean’s Twelve failed to do, I say this: OK, you were telling the truth. It sure has a ring of familiarity to it – how could it not? – but that’s my only quibble with a Las Veags casino caper that this time gets the Ocean’s recipe just right.
Best scene is when Rusty (Pitt) discovers Danny (Clooney) crying to Oprah! in his hotel room. There’s also a final scene with Oprah during the end credits that had sober Cannes critics whooping. Tonight the boys will be partying at what will no doubt turn out to be a glam Vegas-themed bash.
