Oh dear. The reviews weren’t exactly across-the-board raves for The Nanny Diaries, but no one was expecting it to flop that badly. Scarlett Johansson’s new movie opened on Friday and limped into the box-office chart at No 19, with takings of £101,000 from over 200 screens. That compares with £4.4million for top film Ratatouille. The Nanny Diaries was even beaten by the openings of Nicole Kidman flop The Invasion, Kevin Costner’s serial killer flick Mr Brooks, a New Zealand film about killer sheep (Black Sheep) and the German-language The Counterfeiters, set in a Nazi concentration camp. Oh, and two Bollywood films that both opened on fewer than 50 screens. Better luck next time, Scarlett.
