She was nominated for a BAFTA last week for Atonement. She picked up an Oscar nomination two years ago for Pride & Prejudice. But Keira Knightley’s name did not appear in the Oscar nominations, which have just been read out in Los Angeles, just after 5.30am Pacific Coast time. Her Atonement co-star James McAvoy likewise missed out on his Best Actor category. However, Atonement made it into Best Picture, a surprise to those who noted that the film had failed to receive any nominations in the awards from America's Screenactors Guild, Writers Guild, Directors Guild and Producers Guild – begging the question, if actors, writers, directors and producers had shown no love for Atonement, which Academy members voted for it? Atonement is joined in the Best Picture category by Juno, Michael Clayton, No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Coming soon: the nominations in full.
