Unless you are an Awards nutter like me, you probably didn’t stay up until 5am to watch the Coens win Best Picture. But hopefully you caught the red-carpet show kicking off at 11pm. Here are six moments worth treasuring:
1. Kate Thornton, desperately searching for celebs to interview at the start of Sky’s red-carpet show, alighting on singer Seal and randomly asking him if he’s a Scissor Sisters fan, then repeating the question several times to looks of growing incomprehension on his part.
2. Ryan Seacrest over on E! complaining that the producer for Sky’s red-carpet coverage was distractingly crouched down right next to his crotch, and also kept on annoying him by asking him, “Who’s that? We need to get him!” Hey, Mr Sky TV, do your own job!
3. Ryan intrusively asking a pregnant – and shocked – Jessica Alba if she was going to breastfeed her baby. (She will be, by the way.)
4. Well-lubricated actor Gary Busey stumbling into Ryan’s interview of Jennifer Garner and Laura Linney, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the footage was being beamed live to the world.
5. E’s gossip expert Ken excitedly claiming, “History was made tonight.” Sadly no peace in the Middle East yet, but just as significantly, George Clooney took his girlfriend Sarah Larson out to a Hollywood event.
6. Sky’s fashion expert (I didn’t catch her name) dissing Best Supporting Actress Ruby Dee – who plays Denzel Washington’s mum in American Gangster – for looking like she put on her make-up in the back of a taxi. Ruby Dee is 83. Let’s see what your make-up looks like when you’re 83, whoever you are.
