The results of Heath Ledger’s autopsy have now been revealed – and the medical examiner has confirmed that he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Six different kinds were found in his apartment, but it is not clear yet which ones he had taken. More to follow…
Update: It’s now been revealed that Heath’s death was caused by “acute intoxication” – there were five different prescription drugs in his system: anti-anxiety drugs Xanax, Valium and Ativan, painkiller Ibuprofen, sleeping aid Lunesta and sedative Restoril, which is prescribed to people with “debilitating insomnia”.
Update: Ellen Borakave, spokesperson for Office of Chief Medical Examiner, confirms the autopsy results:
"Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and
doxylamine," Borakove said in a statement. "We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications."
