Heath Ledger's father has spoken out today to say how proud he is of his late son, who has just received a posthumous Golden Globe nomination. Heath's darkly funny portrayal of The Joker in this year's Batman film The Dark Knight was widely applauded by critics and audiences alike, and we think the Best Supporting Actor nomination is well-deserved. Heath's dad Kim Ledger said, "This nomination is deeply appreciated and is not lost on those of us who continue to love and miss him. We are so proud our boy's work is being recognised in this way." Heath will compete against Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr for their roles in war comedy Tropic Thunder, Philip Seymour Hoffman in Doubt and Ralph Fiennes for The Duchess. Other big nominations include Mamma Mia! for Best Picture, Musical or Comedy, Angelina Jolie for Best Actress in The Changeling and Meryl Streep for Best Comedy Actress in Mamma Mia!, Brad Pitt for Best Actor in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, and Brit director Danny Boyle for Best Director. The awards will take place on 11 January. We can't wait to see all the frocks!
