Last year it was won by Shia LaBeouf, and it looks like the boys will triumph again this year with the prestigious Orange Rising Star Award, which is handed out at the movie BAFTAs. Hot Hollywood talent Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno) will face off against Noel Clarke (writer, director and star of Adulthood), Toby Kebbell (great as a bad-boy rock star in Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla) and Michael Fassbender (Hunger, Eden Lake). Raising the flag for the girls is sole female nominee Rebecca Hall, whose two new movies are Frost/Nixon and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. The award is the only prize handed out at the BAFTAs decided by public vote. Sky Bet have tipped Michael Cera as favourite to win, with odds of 11/8, ahead of Rebecca on 2/1. Next is Noel on 7/2, who we think is the one best placed to challenge Cera, especially if Doctor Who fansites get involved – he played Mickey Smith in the series. Michael Fassbender has odds of 11/2, and Toby, at a generous 7/1, is also worth a punt. Look out for a competition in next week’s issue of heat to vote for your favourite nominee and win tickets to the BAFTAs ceremony on 8 February.
