We've only just got over the glitz and excitement of the Golden Globes, and already another huge glittering awards ceremony is looming. The BAFTAs will take place in London on 8 February – and it looks like it could be a very good night for the Brits of the movie industry. The nominations were announced this morning, and the one we're most excited about has got to be the Best Actor nod for Dev Patel. The 18-year-old former Skins' actor is – amazingly – up against the likes of Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke in a bid to scoop the top prize for his role in the critically acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire. The film has been given a whopping 11 nominations in total, including Best Film and Best Director for Danny Boyle. There's more good news for Kate Winslet, as she's up for Best Actress twice, in the same category, for her roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader. We wonder what her speech would be like this time...? The other film getting loads of attention is The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, which has also nabbed 11 nominations. Angelina Jolie will go up against Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep and Kristin Scott Thomas in the Best Actress category, while heatworld's favourite flick Mamma Mia! has been given a slot in the Outstanding British Film category. Heath Ledger has also been nominated again in the Best Supporting Actor list, while Dev Patel's Slumdog co-star Frieda Pinto has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category. We simply can't wait to find out who wins. There's something very exciting about the BAFTAs, don't you think?
Exciting news for Dev!
