Big win for Kate Winslet
It was a proud night for British talent last night as we cleaned up at the Golden Globes. Kate Winslet, who famously seemed to have a habit of being nominated but never winning, finally got lucky last night and scooped not one, but two awards for her top acting ability. She won the gong for Best Actress in a drama for Revolutionary Road and the Globe for Best Supporting Actress in period drama The Reader. Clearly dumbstruck, a delighted Kate stumbled up to collect the first of her awards and proceeded to thank everyone from her kids to her make-up artists. When the second win was announced for Best Actress, Kate was rendered almost speechless, saying to the audience, "Is this really happening?". She also paid tribute to her "spectacular" co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and her husband Sam Mendes, who also directed Revolutionary Road. The other big win of the night went to Heath Ledger, who was awarded a posthumous Best Supporting Actor gong for his affecting role as The Joker in The Dark Knight. British director Danny Boyle picked up the award for Best Director for the critically acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire, and the film went on to scoop a further three awards, including Best Film. Other Brit winners included actor Tom Wilkinson and actress Sally Hawkins, and Colin Farrell also got an award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. We'll bring you a gallery of all the lovely frocks a bit later, but for now, we'll just say congratulations to all our winners!
