Orange Rising Star Award nominees announced

Every year at the BAFTA Film Awards the top bods of the British film industry get to vote for their top performances and movie-making achievements. But there’s also one category where we all get to have a say: the Orange Rising Star Award. It’s the one prize that’s voted for by the public, and the previous four winners are James McAvoy, Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf and Noel Clarke. Now the nominees for this year’s race have just been announced, and the early frontrunner is Kristen Stewart (Bella!), who must surely benefit from the Twilight factor. Given it is we Brits who are voting, there should be a strong showing for Nicholas Hoult, especially if the Skins fan sites get behind him. Carey Mulligan has just starred in £2million UK box-office hit An Education, while Jesse Eisenberg enjoyed a £3.5million hit with Zombieland and also co-starred with Kristen in Adventureland. The wild card in the pack is French actor Tahar Rahim, whose movie A Prophet doesn’t open until 22 January. But, trust us, he’s amazing in it. If you don’t agree with these nominees, one of the people to blame is heat’s film editor Charles Gant – he joined Noel Clarke, Harry Potter actor Jason Isaacs and other luminaries on the panel that selected them.

Watch out for next week’s heat (on-sale Tuesday 19 January) for a chance to win tickets to the BAFTAs.

although kristen was quite bad in twilight I actually thought she was reaaally good in new moon! and she's been great in other films as well, just not many people have seen them. :)

Oh my god I used to fancy Nicolas when he was in Skins. My affection has now been handed over to Freddie (I think his real name is Luke), though I wouldn't say no to Cook.

That is so weird I was talking about him him with my bfs flat mate yesterday! But surely he has been around for ages since he was in About a Boy? Pattinson was in HP ages ago so hes not really 'rising' either. Infact he was killed so I think thats the opposite of rising...

I'm surprised Robert Pattinson isn't in there. I'm not saying he should be (because he's a rubbish actor), but still surprised nonetheless. It's difficult to say who's worse out of him and kristen though, they are both monumentally bad.

I saw Nicholas Holt on buzzcocks and I didnt like him. He has 0 personality. Kristen Stewar is a terrible actress. Why did heat put Bella in brackets - do they think we wouldnt know who she is?

I dont know why, Kristen's acting skills are pretty bad. (not a jellus R-Patz fan btw). Nicholas Hoult gets my vote. I loved about a boy :)

Nicholas Hoult hasn't done anything since skins though has he? Although I remember reading somewhere he was in a play? I reckon the award will go to Carey Mulligan tbh. Kristen Stewart is surely not a rising star considering she's been in loads of films for years?!
