Remember when Joaquin Phoenix went a bit nutty, grew a great big beard and claimed he was giving up acting to become a hip-hop musician? You might also remember that during that phase he spent a year being filmed for a documentary called I’m Still Here by Casey Affleck, which lead some people to suspect that Joaquin and Casey were just messing around, and that the whole thing was a crazy hoax. Well, soon we’ll be able to judge whether or not the beardy saga was elaborate prank or not, as the world wide distribution rights to I’m Still Here have been bought up by Magnolia Pictures. A statement from the company said, “sometimes funny, sometimes shocking and always riveting, the film is a portrait of an artist at a crossroads. Defying expectations, it deftly explores notions of courage and creative reinvention, as well as the ramifications of a life spent in the public eye.” This is one documentary that we'll be watching, if only to giggle and Joaquin's fuzzy face.
