The opening piece to the Oscars is often one of the most looked forward to events of the evening, the actual awards aside, and this time around it was no disappointment.
Hathaway and Franco, the Academy Awards’ youngest ever presenters, took the audience on a whirlwind and highly amusing tour of the Best Picture nominees by transposing themselves into the movie clips.
Their mission, with some help from Leonardo DiCaprio, was to go into Alec Baldwin’s dreams and “uncover the secrets to presenting the Oscars.” On their journey through his mind, the two presenters met with Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit, Jesse Eisenberg in Social Network and Anne Hathaway even managed a cheeky wink to Colin Firth AKA George VI.
With an additional appearance in Black Swan – where Anne performed a hilarious dance as “The Brown Duck” and James looked extremely uncomfortable in a full body white leotard – and finally a throwback to Back To The Future, where they jumped into a DeLorean and sped off to the awards.
With cameos from Morgan Freeman and Alec Baldwin, it was witty, funny and a great start to the 83rd Academy Awards. In the Inception elevator, which Franco and Hathaway use to navigate Baldwin’s dreams, they met Morgan Freeman, who said: "Alec likes me to narrate his dreams. He says I have a soothing voice."
The first awards of the evening were Art Direction, which went to the stunning Alice In Wonderland, Cinematography, which went to Inception and Supporting Actress, which was awarded to Melissa Leo for her role in The Fighter.
