heat's Film Editor Charles Gant has been a very naughty boy so as punishment we've sent him for ten days to the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera. Ok, not really, he wanted to go, for some reason. Here's what he's been up to so far...
Hi everyone, Charles here, just shy of 24 hours into this year's Cannes Film Festival. So far the big stars to be spotted are Robert De Niro, Jude Law and Uma Thurman, who are all on the jury that decides the winner of the Palme D'Or. Last night they mingled on the red carpet alongside stars of the opening night film, Midnight In Paris, notably Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Adrien Brody. The film is directed by Woody Allen and features Hollywood scriptwriter and aspiring novelist Owen Wilson on holiday in Paris, being whisked back every midnight to the 1920s where he meets famous writers and artists. There are lots of in-jokes about F Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. Yes, it's that kind of film. Best movie so far (I've seen four already -- sucker for punishment, eh?) is We Need To Talk About Kevin, adapted from the bestselling novel by Lionel Shriver. Tilda Swinton stars as the mother of problem child Kevin, who is played by talented newcomer Ezra Miller. His character goes from 15 to just shy of 18 in the film (Kevin as a child is played by a younger actor), but presumably Ezra is a bit older than that, so it's probably OK to fancy him.
