Oh no! There's going to be a Dirty Dancing remake

Dirty Dancing is pretty much  the ultimate chick flick, and one of our favourite films ever - so we’re not very impressed to hear that a remake of the 1987 classic is being planned. How could anyone improve on the original? And no one could replace Jennifer Grey as Baby or Patrick Swayze as Johnny in our opinion.

The only thing that gives us hope that a remake could live up to the original, is the news that the film’s original choreographer Kenny Ortega will direct the new version. Kenny has said of the chance to reimagine the story of Baby and Johnny,

"The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me. Growing up in the '60s on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist. I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring Dirty Dancing to the screen for a new generation.

"Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him. I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there and I can't wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats."

The movie’s producer Debra Martin Chase has commented,"This remake of Dirty Dancing presents an exciting opportunity to both celebrate what has made this movie so beloved and refresh and enhance it so that new audiences can claim it as their own. I am thrilled to be working with Kenny Ortega again and with the dynamic creative team at Lionsgate."

The original Dirty Dancing movie was made for just $6million and has since grossed $213.95million internationally. We really can't see the need for a reboot, but are you excited about Dirty Dancing for a new generation?

NOO they can't do this, they will undoubtedly ruin it. Why are producers so intent on ruining iconic movies? (other than the obvious to make themselves some $$$) Honestly how on earth do they think they can replace PATRICK SWAYZE !!!!!!

Dear Mr Ortega. Dirty Dancing is my favourite movie of all time & has been since I was 14yrs old. DO NOT REMAKE IT!!!! It is a timeless classic, Patrick Swayze (god bless him) will always be Johnny Castle in my eyes and as much as I want to play Baby, it'll never happen because Jennifer Grey made the role iconic! Fame was turned into a remake 2 yrs ago & it was terrible. Please leave Dirty Dancing alone. Regards. Vicki_pink

I've eaten too many Wotsits lately and now I can't face them. In fact, I have had enough of crisps for a while. I'm sure you all wanted to know that!

Dirty Dancing is a fantastic film, it's still watchable today and is one of few 80's films that doesn't look horribly dated, probably because it's set in the 50's so nobody had to wear a bubble perm and a ra-ra skirt. DO NOT REMAKE IT, THERE IS NO NEED YOU GREEDY HOLLYWOOD ARSES

If you want to get the level of cheese right then a Wotsits factory is a good start. Why are they messing with something so horrendously terrible it's absolute genius. WHY?!

I'm not a Dirty Dancing fan either. I don't get the hype. Too corny for me.
