The first full-length trailer for the upcoming Hobbit movie, starring Martin Freeman as 'a hobbit', has been released today, and – oh, go on. Go, just go. Just scroll up and watch it.
Okay well now that is out of the way let's just freak out and get excited, because despite the fact that the first movie won't hit cinemas until December it already looks amazing.
Trilogy
And yes, the first movie – originally planned as a two-parter, director Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings and King Kong fame announced in July that actually, there was so much straight-up brilliance being committed to celluloid that he would be cutting the Hobbit up into a trilogy. Another one. That's three entire dollops of blockbuster movie fun. Three entire times you can sit in a dark room and eat a whole bag of Minstrels to yourself without anyone having to see.
Or Maltesers
So who is in the film, huh? Hmm? Who's in it? Well, tonnes of Brits, as it turns out: Ian McKellen will reprise his role as the dude wizard Gandalf, while Martin Freeman of 'just being Martin Freeman' fame will be playing the main little guy, Bilbo. Joining them will be Aidan Turner from Being Human and, later in the trilogy, the dulcet tones of Benedict Cumberbatch will be transplanted using computers into the CGI dragon-body of Smaug.
And an ensemble cast of Hollywood A-listers and returnees from Lord of the Rings will also be making an appearance, including Andy Serkis, Orlando Bloom and even a cheeky Elijah Wood cameo. Are you excited? Are you excited? Are you EXCITED? Disclosure: we are quite excited.
