As frontman of probably the biggest band of the year, Caleb Followill is one of the coolest men in rock. But now the singer and guitarist has given a surprisingly intimate interview in which he’s revealed that he was anorexic as a teenager. In a chat with Q magazine, Caleb says he went to extreme lengths to lose weight. “I always thought I wasn’t good enough,” he says. “I’d do anything to keep my hands and mouth busy without eating.” Caleb says he lived on black coffee and would go running in boiling hot weather wearing the heaviest tracksuit possible in order to sweat off more pounds because he was so determined to be skinny. Thankfully, the 26-year-old star tackled the problem before finding fame in the band, but says he does still worry about his body image – but now he wants to look strong, rather than thin. “I want to look like I can defend myself,” he says. “I want a guy to look at me in a bar and know he can’t talk shit to me or run me over – even though he probably could.” Don’t you think it’s extremely brave and inspiring of Caleb to be so open about such a private and surprising issue?
