A few years ago, Katie Melua’s fan base consisted largely of a) your gran, b) your mum, and c) bicycle fans. While she wasn’t the coolest of musical folk, she looked pretty and was known primarily for being the saviour of Christmas present dilemmas for any relative over 40. Now Katie’s gone all trendy and modern and hooked up with trendy producer type William Orbit (who’s done stuff for Nadine Coyle’s album, fact fans) and come up with the fantastically EPIC single The Flood, which we haven’t stopped listening to since it landed in the office. Yes, it’s that good.
