We'll admit it, we have a massive soft spot for Boyzone, they're one of the sweetest, funniest bands we've ever interviewed and frankly they're a lot of fun on stage too. And a lot of people don't know this but their last album, Brother, actually outsold Tinie Tempah's huge debut album last year (that one's for you fact fans). Pretty impressive right?
So we were more than a little happy when we headed to Wembley Arena this weekend (along with about 15,000 other people) to see the boys play their latest date on the Brother tour. Especially as they brought out the old school tunes like Picture Of You, Words, No Matter What and When The Going Gets Tough. We admit they had us all getting our moves on.
The boys also paid a special tribute to Stephen Gately by form of a film as it would have been a bit much to do it on stage (understandably). Ronan kicked things off by quietly saying, "I still see him sitting in the corner, or on the microphone". While Keith (also known as fit Ciaran in Corrie) added, "When you realise he's not going to walk in - that's the tough moment."
Though it was sad not to see Stephen singing and dancing along with the others and filling the stage with his presence, it was totally lovely to see Mikey get the chance to go totally solo on new tune ‘Til The Sun Goes Down and Keith even showed off he can sing (by joking that no one had ever asked him to sing a high note in 18 years - that's probably true!) by singing a line out of Ave Maria.
All in all, it's very hard to resist having a dance to the likes of Love You Anyway, belting out to Words and shedding a tear during Gave It All Away. And the Brother tour gets a big ‘thumbs up’ from us.
