With ten nominations, the Best British Single category could be seen as the hardest to win.
But it was an out and out success for British rapper Tinie Tempah who won the award for his debut single ‘Pass Out’.
The other nominees were Alexandra Burke’s ‘All Night Long’, Cheryl Cole’s ‘Parachute’, Florence and the Machine’s ‘You’ve Got The Love’, X Factor Winner Matt Cardle’s ‘When We Collide’, Olly Murs’ ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’, Plan B’s ‘She Said’, Scouting for Girls’ ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’ and ‘All Time Low’ by The Wanted.
When his name was announced, Tinie Tempah bounded up to the stage, grabbed his microphone and started yelling “Labrinth” at the audience. “I’m not accepting this speech without Labrinth”.
Labrinth is of course the song’s producer, who also sang on the chorus of the award-winning track.
However, when Labrinth didn’t appear on stage, Tempah started to look a bit awkward and had to make the speech without his right hand man, which led to speculation of Labrinth’s whereabouts. I think he may have had an ill-timed nip to the loo. If that’s the case, he’ll probably be kicking himself.
Thankfully he reappeared in time for Tinie Tempah’s performance of ‘Written in The Stars’, which he merged into Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Miami To Ibiza’. The whole performance had the audience on their feet and was accompanied by a laser display show.
The performance finished with the Brit winner itself ‘Pass Out’. I’m sure he will later after all that jumping round the stage.
