The list of nominees for this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize was announced earlier this week. But what do all of the artists on the shortlist have in common, other than being in line to win a £20,000 prize? Well, they’re all terribly polite and gracious, too.
The bookies have their favourties, tipping Adele or PJ Harvey for victory, but who do the nominees want to win? None of them seem to think they stand a chance. Speaking at the Mercury launch, all the acts genuinely seemed like they wanted to the prize go to someone else. How very sweet, but a little un-rock 'n' roll, don’t you think?
