PJ Harvey last night became the first person to win the Mercury Music Prize twice! Congrats, Polly!
The solo artists’ 8th studio album, Let England Shake, garnered the award ten years after her first win on September the 11 2001 with Stories Of The City, Stories Of The Sea. PJ has admitted that the influence for her new album came from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Wearing a white, floor length dress with matching feathered headwear, PJ’s speech discussed the last time she won the award. “It's really good to be here as when I last won 10 years ago on September 11 I was in DC watching the Pentagon burn from my hotel room. I remember talking on the phone while watching a line of tanks in the city. It was a strange day.”
The singer/musician has also proclaimed she wants to win again in another 10 years.
Other nominees included Adele’s, 21 and Elbows, Build A Rocket Boys.
