Whitney Houston back in the charts with 27 singles in the top 200

Posted by 14 February 2012 11:06

Music fans devastated by the tragic death of Whitney Houston are paying tribute to the legendary singer by purchasing her iconic songs and albums – sending Whitney back into the charts in impressive style.

The Official Charts Company reports that 27 of Whitney’s songs are on course to re-enter the Official Singles Chart Top 200 this Sunday, with Whitney’s huge hit from The Bodyguard, I Will Always Love You, leading the way. I Will Always Love You was massive success for Whitney when she released in the song nearly 20 years ago – it spent 10 weeks at Number One, and was the best-selling single of 1992.

Three of Whitney’s albums are also rushing up the Official Albums Chart, Whitney’s The Greatest Hits is at Number Six, The Essential Whitney is at 59 and her 1998 album My Love Is Your Love is at 107.

Official Charts Company managing director, Martin Talbot commented, “The tragic death of Whitney Houston came as a shock to her friends, colleagues and music fans across the world. Again, the British public is demonstrating its love of Whitney, just as it did for Amy Winehouse last year and Michael Jackson in 2009 – and the Official Charts will reflect that this weekend and, no doubt, in the coming weeks.”

I've had plenty of cds in my life that have gotten scratched, lost or borrowed but never returned, i already own whitneys greatest hits and its in working order so it wasn't a problem when i wanted to listen to it but if i didn't i probably would have bought it again

I find it quite annoying that iTunes have suddenly upped the price of her music. I've already got her Greatest Hits and downloaded various other bits of hers over the years so don't need to become one of those who only download music once a person has died.

Maybe people just don't think about an artist like Whitney, who had been quiet of later, until they die?

On a lighter note, I love ALL her songs. But my all time favourite track is "Could I have this kiss Forever" that she sung with Enrique Iglesias. I want to sing it with him! :-)

Why would Itunes add £5 to her Ultimate Collection album (which I own)? That's just greedy & ridiculous. To be fair I was only about 3 when the Bodyguard was released so I didn't really appreciate her music until she sang "It's not right but it's okay". But I agree with the rest of everyone's comments-why suddenly choose to like an artist's music when they're gone? Baffling.

Totally agree with the comments below. I don't see why people suddenly jump on the bandwagon and buy a newly dead artist's music. Weird.

I don't get how people suddenly realise they like someones music after they die?! I think she was a great artist and already have the songs I like of hers, her unfortunate death is not going to make me go out and suddenly buy her album. I guess it's true what they say, an artist is never really appreciated until they are dead :(

Surely all her real fans would have bought all her stuff years ago ? I know I've got every album she ever made and most of her early singles and I transferred it all onto my Ipod and laptop ages ago, so I'm not about to buy it all again because she died.
