Rihanna, Kanye West, Keira Knightley…loads of celebrities love east London. And now Jay Z can be added to the list, as he’s set to headline the Hackney Weekend festival this summer.
The festival, which is due to take place in Hackney Marshes, will also see the likes of Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, Lana Del Rey, Florence and the Machine and Ed Sheeran take to the stage to celebrate the Olympics. It takes place on 23rd June and the radio station is giving away 100,000 tickets to to the event.
There’s no word yet on whether Jay Z’s collaborator (and sometime-resident of nearby Clerkenwell) Kanye West will show up to the gig, but the headliner for the second night is yet to be announced, so we’ve got our fingers crossed that the rapper will grace the UK with his presence again…
Jason Carter, who's directing the event, said: “"Our goal was to deliver the most ambitious and exciting event in Radio 1's history and with the artists already announced I think we've achieved that, but to now add the world's biggest hip hop icon, Jay-Z, to the line-up, is fantastic news.”
If you’d like to go along – and with a line up like that, why wouldn’t you? – you can register at bbc.co.uk/radio1.
The bulk of tickets are reserved for people who live closest to east London - all those trendies have priority - but a good 35,000 of the tickets will be going to anyone in the UK.
And luckily, the whole thing is going to be screened on BBC3, so you can catch it there if all else fails.
