Strange things are afoot in the world of Saturday night telly. The new series of Strictly Come Dancing begins next Saturday 6 October (there's a pre-recorded doc going out this Saturday introducing all the contestants), but the BBC has taken the odd decision to show the results show, in which the losing dancer gets voted off, the NEXT evening! So you sit through all the excitement of the live performances, phone-in and vote, but you don't get to find out the results for a whole 24 hours. Madness! The results show will be pre-recorded on the Saturday night, so at least all those taking part don't have to gather again just to hear the results on Sunday, but the whole thing is still weird. Does it have anything to do with the fact that ITV1 is putting on an extra episode of The X Factor on Sunday 7 October? (Even though the Sunday-night Strictly results scheme will run for the duration of the series.) Or is it just to give the increasingly nervous BBC more time to make sure the results of the phone voting are correct? Whatever the reasons, it does seem bizarre...
