Tonight sees the start of a very interesting televisual experiment, as ITV1’s much talked about new soap Echo Beach begins at 9.30pm, starring Jason Donovan, Martine McCutcheon and Hugo Speer as the three corners of an intriguing lurve triangle. So you're thinking, "That doesn’t sounds very experimental or unusual"? Well, we haven't finished explaining yet.... Echo Beach is proceeded by a brand new sitcom called Moving Wallpaper (ITV1 9pm), which is all about the making of the Echo Beach. How very post-modern. Starring Ben Miller as the wankerish producer of the soap, it’s a very funny look at the world of TV production. Best of all, incidents that occur in Moving Wallpaper are then seen in Echo Beach; so when Ben’s character tells a child actor who refuses to cry on cue that her parents are dead, we then see the same kid in Echo Beach hysterically bawling her eyes out. Genius, huh? If you're still unconvinced, here are our top five reasons to tune in:
1. Hello? Jason Donovan is back in soap! Brilliant!
2. AND it’s with Tiffany Martine McCutcheon. How ace is that?
3. There’s a lot of hot young acting talent on display – and by that we mean there’s a lot of flesh on display, including ex-Hollyoaks hottie Marcus Patric. He’s still looking good, hurrah.
4. Former Footballers’ Wives star Susie Amy crops up in Moving Wallpaper as herself – and she’s so hilariously desperate for a speaking role in the soap that she offers sexual favours in return for lines!
5. Ben Miller is oddly fancible in a sort of loveable rogue/Hugh Grant way. Mmm.
Make sure you come back after the show at 10pm to tell us what you think of it all.
