It’s always tough to know what to do after leaving a show as big as EastEnders, but Natalie Cassidy seems to be taking a more unusual route than most – she’s doing some proper thesp theatre work. Natalie has just signed up to appear in a play called Gertrude’s Secret (alongside Prunella Scales, aka our favourite Fawlty Towers character!) in Southend and London, and she’s not even getting paid for it, although she will receive a share of any profits. Desperate times, or is she trying to be taken more seriously? “I’d like to do some really respected theatre,” she said recently. “It’s hard but it’s what I’d like to do.” Hmm. It was also recently announced that Natalie’s signed up for another play – Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Now, we’re not experts on Chekhov, but we’re pretty sure nobody had boobs like that in 19th-century Russia. Still, we’ll be very interested to see how Natalie gets on – it’s a long way from Walford…
