It was the biggest celebrity scandal of the weekend – warm and cuddly Fern Britton lying about having gastric band surgery, but what do you think of her now? In case you missed it, a Sunday newspaper found out that Fern had had the op – but while initially her agent denied the claim, saying “This story is preposterous and utterly untrue… it is a libellous statement”, Fern later did some furious back-peddling and spoke out herself. “As I know, many people are interested in my weight loss of the past two years,” she said. “As interest is so high I’m making public, as a personal choice, that I had a gastric band operation two years ago.” Until yesterday, Fern had said her transformation from a size 22 to a 16 was a result of “a lot of hard work” and had appeared in numerous magazine articles extolling the virtues of losing weight and getting fit naturally.
