We never thought Simon Cowell had a great deal in common with Blake Fielder-Civil, but one singer seems to think so – Nikki McKibbin, who came third in the first series of American Idol (the one wot Kelly Clarkson won), says Simon’s to blame for her addiction problems and depression. “I came out of Idol with a lack of self-confidence,” says the singer, who’s now been treated for her problems on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab show. “I think I had my first choir solo in school when I was five, and more as I got older: That's the biggest compliment in choir. I had never been told I wasn't good enough. Having to hear it for so many weeks from Simon Cowell killed me inside. I couldn't get the shit he had said to me out of my head. We were heavily chaperoned, but I would buy vodka and sneak it into the refrigerator on the bottom floor.” Simon once compared a performance of Nikki’s to Adam Sandler’s tone-deaf warbling in The Wedding Singer (*sniggers*), but we’re not sure if that’s really a valid excuse to become a drug addict – what do you think?!
