We don't really talk about Ben Fogle very often here on heatworld, but that's mostly because he's a sweet lovely man who spends his time with cute animals as opposed to falling out of night clubs. The fact that he's such a sweetheart makes this news all the more worrying: Ben is seriously ill after he was bitten by a flesh-eating bug. We know! We thought such horrible things only existed in scary sci-fi movies, too. The TV presenter was bitten while filming new BBC2 show Extreme Dreams in the South American jungle, and he will now have to endure weeks of treatment in an attempt to kill off the potentially fatal parasite. The star felt fine while over in America, but on his return home he was left bed-ridden with a virus and an open sore on his arm. The serious illness could affect the star's fitness levels, jepordising his planned expedition to the South Pole in December. Ben's treatment will take at least a month, and will involve daily hospital visits. To kill off the parasite, poor Ben has to be given a poisonous compound, which should cure the illness, but will also leave him feeling extremely unwell. Specialists are confident that he will make a full recovery, but it's been a very worrying time for all concerned. Poor lovely Ben. We're all thinking of you – get well soon!
